Pumped storage power plant in the region of Kozjak - more than just an idea (Maribor, 3. 2. 2006) - The pumped storage power plant in the region of Kozjak became more than just an idea when the company Dravske elektrarne Maribor (DEM) prepared the basic groundwork plans.
The company DEM had already presented the idea to residents of the local communities on an informative basis two years ago. Currently, procedures for placing the facility into the environment and spatial area is underway, prescribed and managed by the state. Although a long road lies ahead and such procedures can last for many years, with construction amounting expected to end as late as the year 2012, DEM is intensively preparing for this project. Experience gained from previous construction and refurbishment projects shows that such a project requires expert knowledge and is extremely demanding and extensive. DEM wishes to confirm the trust given to it up to now also to the local communities where they have been present for almost a century. Therefore, today and also in the future, DEM, when preparing projects, will investigate all suggestions and take into account all eventual risks. DEM believes that the project, one of the larger ones in south-eastern Slovenia in the past 30 years, with an estimated value of around 160 million euros, will be successfully carried out.
