Melje small power plant: exploiting the biological minimum
The operation of the Zlatoličje HPP is inseparably connected to the operation of the Melje Small HPP, located in the Melje dam structure.

The Melje Small HPP and its unit with a net capacity of 0.68 MW exploits the prescribed winter flow of the Drava riverbed which amounts to 10 m3/s. The remaining portion of the flow, which in the summer reaches 20 m3/s, flows back into the river via a discharge through the floor into the supply channel.

The construction of the unit on the existing structure of the dam allows for the additional generation of electricity from the unexploited potential in the water that the Zlatoličje HPP, conforming to the minimum biological standards, returns back to the old riverbed of the Drava River. In the year 2007, a new unit with installed flow of 20 m3/s will be installed in the Melje Dam.
