Development
Refurbishment of the Zlatoličje power plant

The Zlatoličje HPP, the largest channel-type power plant in Slovenia, has been operating reliably since 1969. Its refurbishment is necessary due to the wearing out of the generator and turbine equipment, the replacement of which is the main goal of the refurbishment  project. Other goals include increasing the generation capacity and ensuring greater environmental and human safety.

The increased generation of electric power is our solution to the increasing need for electricity. Even after the refurbishment, the electric power needs of Slovenia will still need to be supplemented through imports; however, the effect on the national energy balance will certainly be positive. Energy obtained from rivers ranks among the cheapest. Positive economic effects will undoubtedly be extremely significant for DEM and the continued permanent development of the region in which the company operates and that we, in cooperation with local communities, responsibly co-shape.

Ensuring greater safety is our solution to the increasingly stricter enviromental demands and especially the expectations of the people. Upon the conclusion of refurbishment work on the Upper Drava power plants, the company will begin the refurbishment of facilities on the lower part of the Drava River without any great spatial alterations. All work, with the exception of new generating units at Melje Dam, where the use of the guaranteed  prescribed minimum flow is more optimal, will be performed on existing facilities, ensuring minimum effects on the environment.

We sincerely believe that together with our best efforts, the refurbishment work will successfully lead to the increased generation of electric power and also environmental and human safety. It is important that we all follow the principle of doing good, allowing us to be in constant touch with nature and people. We are convinced that the conclusion of the project will bring us one step closer.
